hey everyone,
stumbled upon this lively group the other day....i have to say, i don't think maine sucks. when i was younger 11 to 18, i hated it here. hated hated hated it. i moved around. boston. northern maine. central maine. montreal. burlington. philadelphia. i am 21 now and find myself living in portland once again. i plan on moving at the end of this summer, but i have come to know and love the place i was born. i mean north of portland kind of sucks (if you are the city type) but it is really beautiful and quiet and maybe when i'm like 80 i'd like to live up in calais or some shit. i would almost compare northern maine to the deep south. (not a good thing)
hey maybe i am pissing alot of people off by saying that i don't think maine is all that bad. i mean come on, we could all be living in arkansas right now. or nebraska. or darfur. think about it.

Hi, I'm the Moderator.

I grew up in Maine and as much as I miss the coast and the smell of pine trees, I got sick and tired of watching Maine's economy go into a downward spiral over several years, all the while amazingly enough the locals shooting down just about any out-of-state business looking to take root in Maine then being absolutely stupified that there were fewer and fewer jobs. I remember Maine growing up and there were a lot of happy times, but in my experience it's turned into an ugly situation.

Oh, and I now live in Fayetteville, Arkansas and it's actually a really cool place! I'm a stone's throw away from the University of Arkansas and I only pay $450 a month for a decent 2BR apartment, I couldn't get one for under $900 back in Portland.

As much as folks might not want to hear this, leaving Maine was probably the best financial decision I ever made.
